- Nitrous Oxide: Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide produces feelings of euphoria and calm.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: Administered through pills, oral conscious sedation produces relaxation without full sedation.
- IV Sedation: Also known as “twilight” and “sleep” dentistry, IV sedation allows for complete relaxation. The longest-lasting option, IV sedation is ideal for longer procedures.
All types of sedation can decrease the discomfort surrounding issues such as dental phobia, sensitive teeth, and an over-active gag reflex. IV sedation offers the most predictable outcomes and the deepest level of relaxation, often making it the best choice for our patients.
Committed to Patient Comfort
At Wood Creek Dental, we are committed to maintaining patient comfort without compromising outcomes. To this end, we have partnered with Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) for the administration of IV sedation. This helps to protect patient safety and allows our dentists to focus entirely on the procedure being performed.
The amount of sedation administered is carefully monitored by our CRNA partners and can be adjusted throughout the procedure to ensure continued relaxation. While you will need to arrange for a ride home from your appointment, effects from IV sedation are typically short-lived. Most people feel okay to resume normal activities within a few hours.
IV Sedation can help to produce absolute relaxation before and during your dental procedure. It is an excellent solution for people who experience anxiety surrounding dental appointments as well as those who struggle with discomfort while undergoing dental care. We can administer sedation for any procedure, including routine cleanings, to address issues as diverse as restless leg syndrome and TMJ.
