Are you fearful of going to the dentist? Do you feel sick just thinking about work being done on your teeth? You are not alone. An estimated 75 million people in the U.S. have a fear of the dentist.
At Wood Creek Dental in Greenville and Landrum, we understand those fears and are here to help. Sedation dentistry is an alternative we offer to our patients throughout Upstate South Carolina to assist in managing and overcoming dental anxiety. We recognize that not everyone is comfortable receiving dental treatment. We are sensitive to that fact and are eager to address, and help alleviate, any dental anxiety concerns you may have.
You Can Choose Dental Treatment Without Fear
Our mission is to successfully treat high-fear patients who suffer from dental anxiety. In most cases, the patient is the one who needs to determine when sedation is needed. While many patients opt for sedation before undergoing lengthy procedures such as root canals or dental implant placement, this option is available for a variety of treatments. If you feel that sedation is necessary for your dental care, let us know. We are here to make your dental experience as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
“I am terrified of going to the dentist! Sedation is a great way to get dental work done. It was a wonderful experience, and I would recommend it to anyone who is fearful of treatment. Thank you for treating me kindly and with understanding. I am beyond appreciative!” – Nicole G.
Candidates for Sedation Dentistry
You can benefit from sedation dentistry if you have:
- Slight anxiety or an intense phobia
- Experienced past dental trauma
- A bad gag reflex
- Difficulty getting numb or an aversion to needles
- Years of dental work to catch up on
- A desire to combine several treatments into one relaxing, stress-free visit
Type of Sedation
At Wood Creek Dental, we use oral conscious sedation (pills) for several reasons:
- Oral conscious sedation is very safe and effective.
- It allows us to perform lengthier dental procedures.
- The medication stays in your system for several hours following your appointment to prevent discomfort after your procedure.
- Pills are easier for most patients to take than sedation given through injection.
How You Will Feel
Most sedation dentistry patients say they feel like they have slept through the appointment. We commonly hear, “I remember taking some pills, and then I remember waking up with my teeth fixed.”
You will likely not remember your treatment at all, or only remember getting ready to go home after your treatment. You will need someone to drive you to and from your sedation appointment.
